For many New Yorkers, the city holds a specific charm — that a new discovery is always just around the corner. Think hole-in-the-wall restaurants, a chance encounter with a friend or a great book on the carts outside The Strand.

While the sense of possibility has been crystallized romantically in movies like Serendipity and You’ve Got Mail, there's a practical reality for jobseekers as well, with great opportunities just around the corner in 2023.

From a Koreatown office at the foot of the Empire State Building, Mack Weldon’s team has been reimagining menswear essentials for more than a decade while powering sales through a seamless direct-to-consumer web experience. Their team remains small but mighty with 75 employees and is set to grow sustainably over the next year with work hybrid work options available.

Fifteen blocks south, Torch Technology is transforming how dental practices handle digital needs from its Union Square office. Torch’s high-energy culture isn’t limited to the office, though, and the team enjoys virtual game nights and cooking events to keep their team connected whether they work from Manhattan or across the country.

What is one thing that truly sets Torch Technology apart as an employer of choice?

Our culture. We have an inclusive and fun work environment where everyone’s ideas are valued and appreciated. At Torch, we have a hybrid work model and not all of our employees are in person. In a lot of work environments, it can be challenging to get everyone to connect remotely, but Torch excels here. We have game nights with the team, and whenever a new class of hires joins, we have a welcome lunch with them. We’ve had many great in-person and virtual events, my favorite being our virtual cooking event. We made sangria and paella with a chef in Spain, and Torch covered the ingredients for everyone who participated. It was a great experience because the sales team got to connect, cook and have dinner together virtually.

What other efforts or offerings have helped Torch Technology attract top talent recently?

We always strive to make Torch the best place to work, we’re attracting top talent by updating our compensation packages, accelerating career growth especially from the SDR to AE level and providing a training program for our sales team before they jump into their roles. We offer a lot of support and invest a lot into the people we bring on the sales team by providing one-on-one coaching and targeted weekly team training. We’re also big fans of weekly games and contests to keep things fun.

How has Torch Technology adapted to the shifting wants and needs of current and future employees over the last year?

The pandemic shifted our sales team from outside sales to inside sales and paved the way for us to work remotely. We are fortunate to have a team that is hybrid, so we have the flexibility to work from home and the office — it’s the best of both worlds. It’s great to have the option to go into an office and work with the team, and it’s also great to have the autonomy to work from home when needed. Over the last year, Torch was able to implement some great benefits like uncapped PTO, a generous work-from-home stipend to make sure everyone has a comfortable work environment at home and, above all, a really supportive team.

What is one thing that truly sets Mack Weldon apart as an employer of choice?

The opportunity to have impact. Each and every employee at Mack Weldon plays a critical role in the company's success. We're over 10 years old as a brand and have fewer than 75 employees. By keeping the team small and lean, everyone contributes in a big way and takes pride in their work and achievements.

What other efforts or offerings have helped Mack Weldon attract top talent recently?

At Mack Weldon, employee inclusion and belonging is an important part of our culture. Before the pandemic, we created a Culture Crew and Diversity and Inclusion Committee. Both had the purpose of creating fun and interesting ways for employees to connect with one another. Over the years, Culture Crew has organized numerous theme-based happy hours and team competitions, and the Diversity and Inclusion Committee has hosted cultural awareness initiatives, book clubs and volunteering events.

How has Mack Weldon adapted to the shifting wants and needs of current and future employees over the last year?

Before the pandemic, Mack Weldon had a strong in-office culture. We make physical products, so having everyone together in the same physical space, interacting and getting to know the products, had its benefits. The pandemic showed our team the benefits of working from home. We could better focus and switch between life and work more seamlessly. So today, we have the best of both worlds. We come into the office Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays and work from home Wednesdays and Fridays.
