New York City startups saw another strong month for raising venture capital in November. Although things cooled down a bit since October, New York tech companies raised over $418 million this month. Here’s a look back at the top five rounds.
4. Catchpoint Systems, $22 million, November 4
Investors: Sapphire Ventures and Battery Ventures
Bio: Catchpoint’s platform provides performance insights on its customers’ digital experience in order to boost overall business performances for companies.
News: The company plans on using the new funding to expand its product development and global go-to-market strategies.
1. BuzzFeed, $200 million, November 21
Investors: NBCUniversal
Bio: BuzzFeed is a digital publisher that provides ultra-shareable breaking news, entertainment stories and video content across the social web to a global audience.
News: BuzzFeed plans on using the funding to deepen its strategic partnership with NBCUniversal within its ad sales stack. BuzzFeed quietly acquired Scroll last month, marking the company’s foray into e-commerce.
3. Zola, $25 million, November 22
Investors: Lightspeed Venture Partners
Bio: Zola is a digital wedding gift registry aiming to take on traditional registry outfits such as Macy’s, Williams-Sonoma and Amazon. The platform lets couples build personalized pages, and includes features such as group gifting and virtually exchanged gifts.
News: This new financing comes only a year after Zola’s last round of $10 million, which the company used to grow its flexible and customizable, registry experience.
2. xAd, $42.5 million, November 14
Investors: Emergence Capital Partners, IVP (Institutional Venture Partners), W Capital Partners, and Eminence Capital LLC
Bio: xAd is an ad network that shows ads in apps and mobile web pages based on your location.
News: Along with the new funding xAd also acquired popular weather app WeatherBug.
5. AdvisorEngine, $20 million, November 18
Investors: Wisdom Tree Investments
Bio: AdvisorEngine is a next generation wealth management platform.
News: With the new funding, Advisor Engine will enter a strategic partnership with Wisdom Tree Investments to actively introduce the platform to a deep distribution network. AdvisorEngine is also the new name for the company formerly known as Vanare, which rebranded with the new financing.
