Social Media Editor - XXL
XXL is looking for an internet-culture-savvy editor to build up its social media presence and continue developing its audience on social networks. The ideal candidate must be obsessed with all things hip-hop. They stream non-stop hip-hop, are up on all the current news, and love talking about it. This person is fully immersed in web culture and is an early adopter of current trends on social media in general and within the hip-hop community. They have a proven track record of employing tactics to engage an audience on social media and tailoring content to a specific community’s demographics and values. They also enjoy being on camera, hosting content, and have some experience editing video content. The role of the Social Media Editor helps oversee XXL's Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube Short, and TikTok accounts, creating dozens of posts daily that engage the brand’s audience in a meaningful, relatable way.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Master the XXL voice to help connect with the audience and engage
- Construct and maintain editorial calendars to track relevant hip-hop events that can be translated into social media-native editorial content.
- Analyze social media content performance daily and identify top-performing and underperforming content— it is your responsibility to understand which content resonates with XXL's current audience and which content is helping to grow it.
- Listen to the social media conversation in real-time on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube Shorts, and Reddit, as well as the comments sections of our brands’ posts, to identify trending topics, memes, and potential news angles that our brands need to take part in immediately.
- Report daily hip-hop news and happenings on social.
- Brainstorm ideas for coverage on social.
- Research popular internet memes and conceptualize editorial angles for trending memes that apply to each national brand’s audience.
- Design social native editorial content through Instagram story/feed graphics, memes, threads, videos, and more. Take popular meme themes and put your spin on them the second they start to trend online. The perfect candidate for this role LIVES in Reddit threads and Instagram and knows where the conversation is happening online.
- Work with the editorial staff to connect created content with social content.
- Create video content for social platforms that reports news and/or appeals to our audience and current or trending topics.
- Host and appear on-screen in YouTube and social videos.
- Collaborate with existing social team on content and coverage.
- Attend events to cover for social both off and on camera.
- Maintain relationships with Twitter, TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube Shorts, Reddit, etc.
- Additional responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of social media experience and video production or editing
- As a social media expert — you know every detail about the features and capabilities of Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, YouTube Shorts, and Reddit.
- Proficient in Photoshop and Canva and familiarity with editing in app.
- Ability to manage heavy workloads, prioritize appropriately, and shift gears quickly.
- Obsessed with music and web culture — a deep knowledge of hip-hop music — and who those fans are — is necessary.
- Ability to identify internet and social media trends instantly and apply engagement tactics
- Team player who is enthusiastic, organized, and has strong communication skills.
- Must complete social networking posting and potential edit and on-screen tests.
