The Role

HuffPost is seeking an experienced growth strategist with a history of growing subscription-based or membership loyalty programs, ideally in the publishing world. This person will play a critical role in substantially expanding HuffPost’s reader revenue program, which encourages our audience to directly contribute to funding our journalism. This is a full-time, hybrid role located in our New York City office. 

You Will

  • Serve as the lead on our reader revenue membership program, working with all stakeholders to find innovative ways to grow this revenue stream into a long-term sustainable business.
  • Provide end-to-end membership program management, including strategy, pricing, outreach, renewals, member engagement, and customer service.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., business, tech, audience, editorial) to improve the overall member journey and ensure alignment on program goals, messaging, and initiatives.
  • Develop and implement strategies to increase membership sign-ups, renewal rates, and overall member lifetime value
  • Coordinate with editorial, product, and marketing teams to develop and implement calls to action to encourage readers to contribute. Identify key moments in the news cycle for new membership initiatives or communicate with existing contributors and optimize messaging cadence.
  • Assess and optimize membership tiers, benefits, and offerings regularly to ensure they meet member needs and market trends.
  • Regularly report on membership program performance, providing detailed analysis of growth trends, challenges, and opportunities.
  • Use data insights to provide recommendations for program improvements and develop and refine marketing campaigns, content strategies, and membership offers.
  • Ensure an exceptional and seamless experience for all members from sign-up through to renewal.
  • Provide First line of defense on reader support issues, including:
    • Members asking about refunds and cancellations, not receiving the contribution newsletter, general questions or concerns
    • Login trouble
    • Issues with commenting or advertisements
    • Other technical issues or support
  • Support sales, PR, marketing, and other teams with membership-related insights, resources, and collateral.
  • Support other initiatives and projects tied to loyalty, such as HuffPost’s 20th Anniversary plans

You Have

  • 2-3+ years of experience growing subscription-based or membership loyalty programs, ideally in the publishing world. 
  • Proven track record of developing and growing online communities
  • Passion for improving user experience and fostering loyal audiences
  • Ability to think outside the box and come up with creative initiatives for membership program
  • Strong understanding of content strategy and its impact on membership
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to adapt tone for different audiences
  • Demonstrated ability to moderate sensitive situations and conflicts between users professionally and effectively
  • Comfortable making data-driven decisions
  • Familiarity with HuffPost’s brand voice and mission
