ML Engineer - Asset Technology

Orenda is on a mission to make the grid more efficient with batteries and software. We build and operate energy storage projects in dense urban environments to bridge the gap between renewables and electricity consumption.

Orenda Asset Management is developing the software and hardware platform to operate these projects. We use ML to forecast electricity markets and decision algorithms to allocate energy optimally. Our cloud platform connects to on-site energy controls systems to monitor and manage our fleets.

Role

Orenda is looking to hire a ML Engineer to join our Asset Management team. This individual will advance our forecasting capabilities and expand our models across energy markets. What You’ll Do

• Devise, iterate on, and deliver ML algorithms/models to solve novel problems in the energy storage space
• Design and implement thorough evaluation frameworks for our forecasts
• For existing models: improve performance, fine-tune parameters, and enrich features
• Perform statistical analysis on market data and model performance
• Confidently communicate your findings via empirical results, thorough documentation, and stakeholder reports
• Work closely with software engineers to productionize your models and design APIs
• Ideate with Orenda’s strategy team on market blueprints and their implementation
• Learn about energy markets and batteries

Requirements

• Excellent problem solver with an affinity for interesting and difficult problems and the follow-through to solve them
• B.S. and 3+ years of relevant experience
• Deep understanding of machine learning algorithms, data processing, and model optimization techniques
• Previous completion of timeseries forecasting projects
• 2+ years experience writing clean, maintainable Python code with ML frameworks (e.g. PyTorch, Tensorflow)
• Demonstrated experience crafting, performing, and analyzing experiments
• Proficiency working in a cloud computing environment
• You take a first principles, mathematically-minded approach to new problems.
• Keen attention to detail. You do not need someone to inspect your work.
• Relentlessly positive attitude, strong work ethic, and sense of humor

Bonus Points

• Experience in energy markets
• SWE background (cloud infrastructure, CI/CD, testing, production-level code)

Additional Information

• Compensation: $100,000 - $150,000 target salary range plus bonus.
