Yesterday, New York's startup community congregated at Pier 94 for the nation's largest single-day tech conference. The event was a whirlwind of entrepreneurship, with over 550 companies exhibiting. Here are the coolest things we saw at NY Tech Day.

A person in a box

Forget Barbie in a Box. This travel startup brought “

in a Box” to the event. Well, it certainly caught our attention.

Haircuts!

“We make it easy for people to get haircuts,” said

Our company is in the Bowery area with plenty of bars and restaurants. Plus, the office is easy to get to with various train and bus stops being close by.
founder, Dave Salvant. Plain and simple. The man getting his haircut, courtesy of Jshaprz the Barber, also had some words. “This haircut is amazing,” said the man.

Sharpie art

Did you notice the huge Sharpie mural at the entrance to the expo? If you did, you probably also noticed artist Timothy Goodman, a New York-based designer, illustrator and art director, drawing away. By the time we caught up with him, Goodman had been drawing for over six hours, but his Sharpie masterpiece was a hit at the event.

We met a pirate

The

mascot and I became fast friends.

3-D printed glow-in-the-dark objects

brought a 3-D printer to the event and was churning out objects made of glow-in-the-dark filament.

A robot

It was hard to miss this guy at Tech Day. Inside the costume was Adam Kearney, the cofounder of

, a service that allows you to prop your content in Slack into your office TVs. Kearney’s get-up was truly original, though he said he was quite warm inside the costume. “I weighed myself this morning and I’m really curious to see how much water weight I’ve lost today.”
