Let’s take a trip back to 2007; George Bush was president, the ipod Nano was widely considered the must-have gadget, and Ran Levi started his podcast ‘Making History’. Since 2007 we have had our first black president, the iphone 7 has been launched (although arguable less innovative than the ipod Nano was), but Ran Levi is still pumping out ‘Making History’ shows.
This is interesting because Levi is from Israel, and his show (entirely in Hebrew) was one of the first podcasts to come out of Israel. The show is on technology, history, and science and has grown tremendously over the years. “Dan I remember when I had 200-300 downloads and was so happy… now we have 50,000 to 100,000 downloads per episode” Levi remarked.
Levi spent years honing his craft for building complex and compelling audio piece. He likens his approach to RadioLab (a very popular American podcast on science and technology). “I love RadioLab… I listen to every show twice. Once as a fan and again to understand how they built the show” Levi admonished.
Now if you’re like us here at TFR you probably want to listen to his show. Until you download the first episode and realize you can’t understand it since it’s in Hebrew. But don’t worry Levi has been hard at work building a podcast for the American market. The show is adaptation of Levi’s original show ‘Making History’, called ‘Curious Minds’.
