Department: Global Brand and Marketing at MetLife
The MetLife Marketing organization is evolving to enable our Next Horizon strategy. The organization has outlined a new vision - to be a customer-centric and data driven growth engine that takes accountability for contributing meaningful enterprise value and building customer equity.

Within GBM, the Global Customer Experience Design (CXD) team is the XD Center of Excellence and Execution for the MetLife enterprise. The team is responsible for defining principles, standards, and assets for digital experiences at MetLife. Its team members are embedded into agile teams established around products or customer journey-based value pools, where they collaborate with cross-functional partners to efficiently deliver customer-centric experiences focused on delivery of customer and business value.
Role Value Proposition:
This is an exciting role to be part of a cross-functioning team committed to evolving our global design system to promote the delivery of consistent and user-centric digital experiences at MetLife. Driven by passion and purpose, we are looking for you to join us as a Design System Product Owner to help deliver that vision.
In this role, you will have the ability to plan and execute the roadmap of our design system from start to finish and ensure that the features meet our customers' needs. You will lead the day-to-day execution in all aspects of product development and operations. You will help the team make decisions, own the delivery of robust pattern and component libraries, and work with our IT partners to identify system architecture, distribution methods and tools.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Product Management:
    • Partner with the product manager to transform the high-level vision into detailed requirements and work with the product team to execute those requirements.
    • Own the day-to-day execution of the established governance model that brings product, engineering, and design teams together in a collaborative and integrated way of working.
    • Be the point person to receive new feature and engagement requests from markets.
    • Interface with team members regularly to resolve priorities, timing, risks, and possible breaking changes of new requirements.
    • Manage the product backlog to best achieve goals and optimize the value of team's work throughout each increment.
    • Communicate and set expectations with markets and external teams on feature release and roadmap timelines.
    • Participate and support the team as decision maker in stand-ups, grooming, retros, and review meetings.
    • Manage and coordinate the design review board agenda and respective meetings with key stakeholders to assess feasibility and priority of feature requests.
    • Partner with the tech lead to plan, coordinate and deploy new releases throughout the product increments.
    • Utilize analytics tooling to track the impact of our design system (utilization, usability, efficacy, etc.) to inform KPIs and areas of opportunities/improvements.
  • Operations:
    • Collaborate and advise markets on new designs and component implementations to gather feedback and discover any new requirements for the product backlog.
    • Partner with ADA COE to establish accessibility guidelines and best practices related to design.
    • Onboard new vendors and markets onto the design system to help them understand component libraries and patterns, governance model, available tooling, and collaboration channels.
    • Provide guidance and support users to help them use our design system effectively and identify areas of standardization and reusability against their designs.


Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:

  • Required:
    • 5+ years of professional experience in product management of web-based sites and/or applications, information architecture, front end development, or business analysis.
    • 5+ years of experience designing responsive web and native mobile app experiences for complex, multi-dimensional programs.
    • Strong proficiency in user experience fundamentals: research, wireframes, prototypes, usability testing, interaction design, visual design, and accessibility standards.
    • Experience with modern UI development frameworks such as ReactJS, Angular and/or VueJS.
    • Experience with content management systems such as Adobe Experience Manager (AEM).
    • Hands-on Agile, Lean, DevSecOps/DevOps knowledge and experience.
    • Ability to negotiate requirements between business, designers, and developers for the best optimal solution available.
    • Ability to lead, influence and operate effectively in a highly matrixed and complex environment.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with focused attention to details.
    • Excellent professionalism and time/task management skills with ability to establish strong relationships.
    • Strong analytical skills with demonstrated ability to apply analysis to actionable insights.
    • Understanding of the culture and issues faced by developers, designers and content writers working in disparate teams coupled with an awareness of accessibility standards and best practices.
  • Preferred:
    • Background working in Financial Services, Insurance and/or Banking experience.
    • Experience with working on design systems in designing, developing, and deploying enterprise grade components, patterns, and templates at scale.
    • Experience with modern UX design and collaboration tools such as Adobe XD, Figma, Zeplin and others.
    • Experience with reporting and visualization platforms such as Adobe Analytics.
    • Experience with DevOps platforms for developing and deploying software such as Azure DevOps.
    • Proficiency with cross-platform product development for web and mobile applications.
    • Proficiency with modern UX/UI design principles, HTML5, and CSS3.
